Introduction

San Mateo County Chinese School is a non for profit organization located in Burlingame, California, near San Francisco International Airport.

The school is primarily to teach Chinese language to K-12 students, especially for students from mixed-race families. Since its inception in 1998, the school has educated over thousands of students.

Faculty at the school are leaders in the community who share a common passion for teaching and learning, and have created a supportive learning environment that is challenging, collaborative, and engaging. They adapt their teaching methods to each individual learning style and enable students in the classrooms to explore the world around us in a safe, encouraging environment.

As the demand for Chinese language among adults and professionals in the community increases, we will partner with Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning to set up an adult learning center at the end of April, 2024 to further promote adult Chinese courses.

Teaching Characteristics Online and in-person courses are carried out at the same time, and appropriate classes are given according to the degree of each person. Teachers will teach according to the different degrees of each person, and give help according to the needs of students' work.

In the class the teachers teach traditional Chinese with Zhuyin and Pinyin.

The students will develop their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing/typing Mandarin language.

We also provide online one-on-one for extra hours to strengthen the needs of students. In the classroom, focus on the teaching of real life, cooperate with the Chinese festival activities and invite them to participate in the actual experience.

In the meantime, cultural courses are provided to increase understanding of Chinese culture with Taiwanese characteristics.
